Seashell Runes

Updated: Jan 13, 2021

Turn beautiful seashells into lovely and unique runes. Seashell divination is a wonderful way to connect with the power of the sea and its many mysteries.

The element of water corresponds with the moon, emotions, intuition, and psychic abilities. Since seashells are from the ocean, they make powerful divination tools that help us to connect with our own intuition and psychic abilities. You can buy or collect your shells. Since I live near the ocean, I like to collect shells that wash up on shore.

  • Seashells

  • Acid free and waterproof pen

  • Clear Nail Polish

1. Clean your shells of debris and let them dry.

2. Choose which runes you would like to use and draw the rune designs on the inside of the shell. As you add the inscriptions, focus your intent on your shells.

  • note: For my shells, I chose to use the 13 basic witch's runes in the image below. You can use any set of runes you like.

3. Coat the inside of the shell with clear nail polish.

4. Set the shells under the moonlight to cleanse and charge them. Say,

"Deities of the ancient seas,

Bewitch these shells that I may see.

Fill these runes with second sight,

Ocean's wisdom and pure moon's light."

Hi Mathilde,

Thanks for your question! This describes how to turn seashells into runes. Runes are used for divination and to gain insight into a situation. To better answer your question, I'll work on a manual for runes and how to use them.

As for the spell at the end...The spell at the end is to charge the runes by moonlight and to call upon the ocean deities to enchant the runes. I often like to include a spoken spell when I create magical items to help me focus my intent and create more powerful tools.

I hope this helps! Happy Witching!!
